Why is YouTube marked Beta?
YouTube download support is newer and narrower than our stable platforms. Shorts URLs are the best fit; some watch and youtu.be links work when embeddable — live streams, age-gated, or rights-managed videos often do not.
How do I copy a YouTube Short link on mobile or web?

All three shapes can work for public, embeddable videos, but Shorts paths are most reliable in Beta. Paste whichever URL Share or the address bar provides — not every watch or youtu.be link resolves; always check the preview before you save.
How do I save a YouTube Short?
Copy the public Short link, paste it on SMDownloader, click Download, confirm the preview shows the clip you expect, then save the file to your device. If preview is empty, the URL is not supported yet — try another public Shorts link.
Why did my YouTube link fail?
Common causes: private or unlisted restrictions, live or premiere replays not ready, region blocks, age gates, rights-managed music, or content YouTube does not expose to logged-out viewers. Long-form watch pages often fail — try a public Shorts URL.
Can I download audio only?
When YouTube exposes a separate audio stream in the preview, you can save it. Not every watch URL returns a split audio file — Shorts usually return one combined video file.
Do I need a YouTube account to download?
No account on SMDownloader — but the video must be public and fetchable without signing in. If you must log in to view it in a browser, our servers cannot retrieve the media either.
