Common questions
How do I download an X (Twitter) video?
Copy Share → Copy link on a public post with video, paste the x.com or twitter.com status URL above, click Download, preview the file, then save through your browser. Works when the post is visible without logging in.
x.com or twitter.com — which link should I use?
Either hostname works as long as the URL includes /status/ and the numeric post ID. Copy the link from Share → Copy link or the browser address bar.
Can I download GIFs from X?
Yes. Animated GIFs on X are served as MP4 files. The preview shows them as video — save the file to your device like any other clip.
Why did a quote tweet fail?
Paste the URL of the post that actually contains the media. If the video lives in the quoted post, open that post and copy its status link instead.
Do profile, search, or hashtag URLs work?
No. Paste a direct status link with /status/ and a numeric post ID — e.g. x.com/user/status/123…. Profile pages, search results, and hashtag feeds are not supported.
Do I need an X login to download?
No account on SMDownloader — but the post must be public. If you must sign in to view it in a browser, or the account is protected, our servers cannot fetch the media either.
What formats does the X downloader return?
Videos and GIFs usually save as MP4. Still images save in the format X serves on the public post — check the preview before you save.
Why won't my X URL download?
Common causes: protected accounts, text-only posts, Spaces, deleted posts, or an incomplete URL. Confirm the post opens in an incognito window, paste the full Share → Copy link, then retry once.
