How to download a Twitter / X video
- 1. Copy the status link — On X, open the post with the video and copy the URL from Share → Copy link or the browser address bar. The link must include /status/ and the post ID.

Tracking parameters like ?s=20 are fine — paste the status link exactly as copied. Profile, search, and hashtag URLs are not supported.
Protected accounts, Spaces, and text-only posts will not return a file. Quote tweets must point at the status that actually contains the media. Only save content you own or have permission to download.
Where files save
After you confirm a save, the file goes to your browser's default download location — usually Downloads on desktop or your photo gallery on mobile. SMDownloader does not host or email files.

Common questions
How do I save a Twitter/X video to my phone gallery?
Copy Share → Copy link on a public post with video, paste the status URL above, click Download, preview the MP4, then save it. On iPhone, tap Save from the preview so the clip lands in Photos; on Android, check the Downloads folder or Files app and move it to your gallery.
Does this work without an X account?
Yes. You do not need an X (Twitter) account and SMDownloader never asks you to log in. The only requirement is that the post is publicly viewable — open the link in an incognito window to confirm before pasting it here.
Does the twitter video downloader save videos in HD?
The MP4 matches the best quality X exposes for that post — HD when the source upload is high resolution. We convert the public stream as-is, so a low-resolution upload stays low-resolution instead of being upscaled.
Can I download videos from private or protected accounts?
No. If a post needs a login to view — protected accounts, followers-only posts, or deleted content — our servers cannot fetch the file either. Public status links only.
Which X or Twitter links work?
Both hostnames work as long as the URL includes /status/ and the numeric post ID — e.g. x.com/user/status/123… or twitter.com/user/status/123…. Tracking parameters like ?s=20 are accepted; profile, search, and hashtag URLs are not.
Why did my X video link fail?
Common causes: text-only posts, Spaces audio, GIFs served as images on this tool, protected or deleted posts, quote-tweet URLs pointing at the wrong status, or an incomplete link. Confirm the post opens in an incognito window and paste the full Share → Copy link, then retry once.
Does downloading an X video notify the poster?
No. X does not tell the poster who viewed or saved a public video, and SMDownloader fetches the file without interacting with the post — no like, reply, or view is added. Your download is invisible to the account that posted it.
Where do downloaded X videos go on iPhone and Android?
On iPhone, use the preview's save action so the MP4 lands in Photos; on Android, the file saves to your Downloads folder (or Files app) and you can move it to your gallery. SMDownloader itself stores nothing — the file goes only where your browser saves it.
Do links stop working after a while?
Yes — if the post is deleted, protected, or the uploader removes the video, the public URL no longer resolves for anyone, including our servers. Copy the link soon after you find it and confirm the preview shows the right clip before saving.
Is it safe and legal to download X videos for personal use?
The tool is safe to use: no login, no account, and the file streams straight from the paste to your device. Legality depends on what you save and how you reuse it — keep it to public posts you have rights to save, personal use, and the copyright holder's terms; don't repost someone else's clip as your own.
